BAD BOYS II

The movie doesn't use the typical codes and conventions of a comedy as it starts in a very serious atmosphere. The scene is shot on water which is not your typical setting for a comedy due to its dangers. Diagetic sound is excellently used in the movie to portray a sense of realism. E.g. when the pills are being arranged during the opening sequence of the movie, the audience can see on the screen and can also hear the pills being arranged which makes the audience believe in their world.  The music used in the movie is parallel to the action seen on the screen as it fits perfectly and reflects on the action on the screen. This is done to enhance the meaning of the shot.
The costumes used in this movie are representatives of the characters. It suggests the importance of the character and its status. E.g. the men in police uniforms show the authority that they have and their purpose in the first five minutes of the movie.  The props such as guns are used in the scene to create tension. Music playing throughout the first four minutes of the film keeps the audience interested in the movie.  The pace of the music also adds to the entertainment of the audience. There are variety of shots used in the opening sequence which also keeps the audience interested and focus on each shot.

Tommy is six years of age and is now out of foster care. He auditions for a local talent show in hopes of finding a happy family. The target audience is mainly teenage boys so the movie will include action suitable for the age group. It is a family movie as it will include certain features that would make it easier for a family to relate to. It would have PG ratings and would be for children from 10 years onwards. The setting of the movie would reflect on the behaviour of the irresponsible man. This would involve a rough neighbourhood with dark lighting to emphasis on the man’s personality .However when the child gets united with the man being Ed the atmosphere would then contradict his behaviour. The sounds used in this movie would be fast to show the inappropriate lifestyle of the man when the titles are being presented on the screen. It would be a non-diegetic sound playing at the background. The music used in the movie will be parallel to the action caused on the screen. The title of the movie is "THE TEST"

SISTER ACT :BACK IN THE HABIT

The movie uses some codes and conventions expected of a comedy as there are creative costumes used in the opening sequence. This is used in order to entertain the audience which is the main factor of the movie due to the genre. This opening sequence was used in this film in order to amuse the audience and to keep them interested in the movie. The use of costumes is brilliantly used to achieve the purpose of the movie as there is variety of them with each one having a different meaning of what is being portrayed in the scene.

The facial expression helps the audience indicate the characters attitude towards what is going on in the screen. E.g. When Whoopi Goldberg is puzzled with what was going on when she was in the air; her facial expression is the factor which tells the audience that what she is experiencing isn't what she planned for. The audience on the screen/scene at this point isn't aware of that but we are informed through her expression. This is a great way to connect the audience to the character. The places shown throughout the first minute of the opening scene keeps the audience interested as they are paranoid to find out what is going on and why the places are being shown. The flashing lights demands the audience attention and keep the audience attentiveness fully on the screen.  The titles are placed in the right hand side of the screen but “Whoopi Goldberg” being the main character’s name appears in the middle of the screen to show the audience she is the main role. The music and dancing that goes on in the opening sequences keeps the audience entertain and gives them a taste of what they are to look out for.

When the song is performed on stage in the opening sequence, the location is used is to tell the audience the kind of personality that the character has and creates a friendly atmosphere due to the response of the audience in the scene. The audience laughing and clapping shows they are being entertained. The movie was produced clearly with the audience in mind as it includes factors that people expect when watching a movie.

RUSH HOUR 3

The movie uses some codes and conventions that are expected of comedy because the setting of the opening sequence is realistic, which is a key factor in comedy as it makes it easier for the audience to relate to. The scene being shot on the road adds to the realism of the movie and makes the audience believe what they see is real. The use of language used in the scene reflects on the genre of the movie which is also what is expected   due to humor being an interest of the audience. The use of diagetic sound used in the scene helps achieve the purpose of the movie which is to entertain. E.g. the character dancing instead of directing the cars wouldn't have had a great impact if the audience didn't hear the music. This is done to make the scene more believable.
However the scene takes place in a serious environment which is not your usual setting for a comedy as it takes place on a high way which the audience are aware of the negatives such as accidents. It is different from your typical setting being the club or a less serious environment. The movie starts with high buildings which gives the audience an impression of something tensed about to happen. However it smoothly moves to the scene where the character is directing the cars whilst dancing which causes chaos. This is effective because it challenges the audience and redirects them from what they would normally expect. The use of sound bridge used from the road scene to the criminal court scene helps create a smooth transition between the scenes and improves the continuity of the film which is fascinating. An excellent use of low key lighting on the person with the gun clearly indicates that he is the villain which is also impressive as it makes the audience aware of who he and what his role is which enables to audience to make their judgments of him.
The appearance of the titles are positioned to inform the audience who the main characters are as both “Jackie Chan” and “Chris Tucker” names appear on the right and left hand side of the screen at the same time whilst the rest of the characters are positioned mainly in the right hand side.  The titles of the production appear on the screen with a different location each time. The audience being introduce to the villain in the opening sequence gives them something to watch out for and keeps them interested as the action caused in the scene is magnificent. The target audience of this movie will be over 13s and those who love comedy movies and also those that love action packed movies as there isn't a dull moment. The movie was released by New line Cinema in association with A Time Warner Company.
