The movie uses some codes and conventions that are expected of comedy because the setting of the opening sequence is realistic, which is a key factor in comedy as it makes it easier for the audience to relate to. The scene being shot on the road adds to the realism of the movie and makes the audience believe what they see is real. The use of language used in the scene reflects on the genre of the movie which is also what is expected due to humor being an interest of the audience. The use of diagetic sound used in the scene helps achieve the purpose of the movie which is to entertain. E.g. the character dancing instead of directing the cars wouldn't have had a great impact if the audience didn't hear the music. This is done to make the scene more believable.
However the scene takes place in a serious environment which is not your usual setting for a comedy as it takes place on a high way which the audience are aware of the negatives such as accidents. It is different from your typical setting being the club or a less serious environment. The movie starts with high buildings which gives the audience an impression of something tensed about to happen. However it smoothly moves to the scene where the character is directing the cars whilst dancing which causes chaos. This is effective because it challenges the audience and redirects them from what they would normally expect. The use of sound bridge used from the road scene to the criminal court scene helps create a smooth transition between the scenes and improves the continuity of the film which is fascinating. An excellent use of low key lighting on the person with the gun clearly indicates that he is the villain which is also impressive as it makes the audience aware of who he and what his role is which enables to audience to make their judgments of him.
The appearance of the titles are positioned to inform the audience who the main characters are as both “Jackie Chan” and “Chris Tucker” names appear on the right and left hand side of the screen at the same time whilst the rest of the characters are positioned mainly in the right hand side. The titles of the production appear on the screen with a different location each time. The audience being introduce to the villain in the opening sequence gives them something to watch out for and keeps them interested as the action caused in the scene is magnificent. The target audience of this movie will be over 13s and those who love comedy movies and also those that love action packed movies as there isn't a dull moment.
